Seriously, why?

There's a full-page ad in the NY Times today from a group called Why Tuesday? The group supports changing the day that voting takes place from Tuesday to a weekend day to encourage more voter participation. The Web site doesn't make it clear which day they'd change it to, though personally I think voting should be held on BOTH Saturday and Sunday to include people whose days of worship fall on those days, as well as people who have to work on weekends.

Chris can talk about this better than I can, but I think that in Bolivia, not only is voting mandatory, but it is also a national holiday. Why can't we have a national holiday for voting here? We have a national holiday for an old, dead explorer who began the process of colonization and genocide in the Americas.
